What is the Adrenal Gland?
The adrenal gland is a small organ located on the top of each kidney. It consists of the adrenal cortex and medulla, which are responsible for the production of hormones. The cortex produces cortisol, aldosterone, and androgens while the medulla produces epinephrine and norepinephrine.
The adrenal medulla is responsible for the circulation of epinephrine and noradrenaline. These hormones which ignite the fight-or-flight response, causing high blood pressure and elevated blood sugar.
What are the Causes of Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome
There are many causes of adrenal fatigue syndrome, such as:
Stress: Adrenal fatigue syndrome is exasperated by ongoing daily life stress; such as jobs, financial problems, divorce, marriage, children, or loss of work. Under extreme pressure, the adrenal glands will produce an abundance of cortisol.
Diet: If you do not take time to prepare or eat healthy food, this will put extra pressure on adrenal glands. Processed foods, too much sugar.
Chronic dehydration: Many people drink too much soda, coffee and fructose filled drinks and not enough water. Water is necessary to help the body, flush out toxins, hydrate the cells and run effectively.
Prescription Drugs: Steroid drugs like, prednisone, triamcinolone, decadron, prednisolone, which are used to treat asthma, arthritis, skin diseases, lupus, and colitis, are all hormones.
